about

In the days before Cruelhouse had grown in number and truly found its internal identity, it took it's first akward form as Insomniaacs, my high school solo effort with a name inspired by the fact that I could not ever fall the fuck asleep at night. I was dabbling in self-teaching guitar as well as learning more about recording, and the project was my dumping grounds for anything made with (mostly) real instruments. Some songs were shoegazy, some songs were post-rocky, some songs were punky, some songs were lo-fi as hell. None of it was necessarily GREAT (some of the instrumentals might be), but looking back I was a bit better than I gave myself credit for.

After Cruelhouse released MIND CONTROL (2018), I retroactively labeled everything before that under the Insomniaacs name for the sake of drawing a clear line in the sand between what was a super directionless solo effort into a project with pointed intentions behind it (look, it's revisionist history, just go with it). That being said, there were some sweet songs I wrote in that time that don't deserve to stay buried, and it would just be easier to gather them all in one place should be gathered in once placed. Amongst a bunch of loose tracks in various styles, you'll find a few cuts from the two EPs that originally featured the Cruelhouse name (Let's Actually Have Fun This Time / instrumentals) as well as recordings from when I was in High School.

Enjoy, it's probably the last thing that will be released under this name
